Section 20-21 Constitution of South Africa 1996

Section 20 and 21 of the Constitution of South Africa 1996 (as amended) are titled Citizenship and Freedom of movement and residence, respectively. They are under Chapter 2 of the Constitution. Chapter 2 is titled ‘Bill of Rights‘.

Citizenship

No citizen may be deprived of citizenship.

Freedom of movement and residence

1. Everyone has the right to freedom of movement.

2. Everyone has the right to leave the Republic.

3. Every citizen has the right to enter, to remain in and to reside anywhere in, the Republic.

4. Every citizen has the right to a passport.
